Routines are pure poison

Your brain needs impulses. Every sensory impression activates numerous nerve cells - the neurons - in your head, which are interconnected.

Your mental performance does not depend on the number of neurons but is generated by the connection between them - the synapses. Did you know that each neuron can make ten to twenty thousand connections to other neurons?

Networks are constantly being built up and connections that are no longer needed are broken again. Because of this flexibility, your mind can learn new things, fall back on old things, or forget them. Mental stimulation and mental training maintain your brain's performance, and both can increase it.

Your brain stores masses of content. It is a data processing system that filters out important information and links it to existing knowledge.

This is done by several memory systems working together; sensory memory, working memory, and long-term memory.

Just like your muscles, your memory needs to be trained, it needs new impulses, and routines are poison. Mental fitness, however, is an interaction of several factors: Exercise, a balanced diet, memory training, and social contacts. The following exercises can help you to create healthy new brain structures. Get fit in the head until high age - it's all about coordination

All you need for these short brain workouts is yourself and a few minutes of your time. With little effort, a significant effect!

Short Brain Workout

Triangle | Square

Draw large triangles in the air with your right hand. Then add your left hand - use it to write squares in the air at the same time.

Thumbs up

While sitting, move your fists back and forth, sticking one thumb up and the other in your fist. Switch sides, and repeat several times.

Zero | Eight

Draw a zero with the right hand and an eight with the left. They can alternate not only the sides but also the direction in which they paint the figures, etc.

Phone | Pistol

The hands alternately form a "telephone" and a "pistol": for the telephone, the thumb and little finger of one hand are extended, and the remaining fingers are folded in. For the pistol, the index finger and middle finger are extended, and the other fingers are folded in. Extra tip: perform at the same time!
