If you love it sweet and healthy, choose mandarins

Mandarins should be one of your favorite fruits as they are the sweetest citrus fruit of all and at the same time rich in important nutrients.

Mandarins ...

...promote fat burning:

Scientists found out in a study that the phytochemical nobiletin in mandarins can prevent the accumulation of fat and at the same time stimulate fat burning. However, it is mainly found in the peel.

...ensure good vision:

Vitamin A and red plant pigments in mandarins strengthen vision, especially in the dark. Vitamin A also promotes the growth of healthy cells in the skin and mucous membranes.

...strengthen the immune system:

Depending on the variety, 100 grams of mandarins contain up to 45 milligrams of vitamin C. So it's good for the immune system if you eat mandarins more often, and your body's cells will also benefit: Vitamin C is one of the important antioxidants that protect your cells from harmful substances such as free radicals.

Their high content of carotenoids (provitamin A) and flavonoids (plant pigments) makes mandarins particularly healthy: these antioxidants protect you from cell damage, and cardiovascular disease and are even said to reduce the risk of cancer.

...help you lose weight:

Mandarins taste wonderfully sweet — and in fact, they also contain quite a lot of fructose. But they are still good as part of a weight loss program. Precisely because of their sweetness, they help you to avoid unhealthy sweets if you have a sweet tooth, and they also provide a portion of important nutrients.

But too many can harm those with a heart condition:

Anyone who has to take a so-called beta-blocker should only eat mandarins in moderation, as the drug increases the potassium content in the blood. Since mandarins contain a comparatively large amount of potassium, not too many of them should be eaten, as the level of this mineral could rise too high.

Season

The harvest season for mandarins varies from country to country and from continent to continent. As a result, mandarins can be bought in your country almost all year round. However, they are only plentiful and therefore cheap to buy in late fall and winter, when the main harvest season has started.

Storage

Mandarins quickly lose their juiciness and aroma at room temperature. Therefore, do not store them for too long, and always keep them frost-free, but as cool as possible.
