Why Group Coaching Works: 7 Benefits of Changing Your Eating Habits Together

Let me guess. You’ve tried to change the way you eat before. You read the book, you made the decision, you started on a Monday. For two weeks it went well. Then came a busy week, a birthday, a bad night, and little by little the old habits came back.
If that sounds like you, I want you to hear this: there is nothing wrong with you. You’re not weak and you’re not lazy. You were simply trying to do something difficult completely on your own.
As a holistic nutrition health coach, I’ve coached people one to one for many years, in several countries and languages, and I love that work. But I’ve also seen what happens when people sit down together with the same wish to feel better in their body. Something shifts. People open up, they laugh, they keep going. So let me tell you why I believe so much in group coaching.
1. You realise it isn’t just you
The energy that drops at four in the afternoon. The kilos that settled around the middle without asking. Waking up at three in the morning with your mind already running. When you carry these things alone, you start to think you’re the problem.
Then someone across the table says, “That’s exactly what happens to me,” and you can feel the whole room relax. That moment alone is worth coming for. Once the shame is gone, you have the space to look at what’s really going on and do something about it.
2. You learn from other people’s questions
In every session, someone asks a question you’d never have thought of, or one you didn’t quite dare to ask. What about my thyroid? Is bread really the enemy? Why am I hungrier since I stopped sleeping well?
You go home with your own answers and with everyone else’s too. It’s like getting several coaching sessions in one.
3. You keep going, even in a difficult week
We all know how to start. It’s week three that’s hard. In a group, you know that everyone meets again next Tuesday. Nobody checks on you and nobody judges you, but you want to come back with something to share, even if it’s “this week was a mess, and here’s what I noticed.”
And you’re not left alone between Tuesdays. Each group has its own WhatsApp group, where you can ask a question, share a photo of your lunch, pass on a recipe or simply say “today was hard”. A little encouragement on a Thursday evening can change your whole week.
4. You share ideas that work in real life
What do you cook when you come home tired? What do you take to work? How do you eat well when your partner or your children want something else entirely?
I bring the knowledge and the structure. The group brings dozens of small, tested, real-life solutions. Someone always has the recipe, the trick or the shortcut you needed.
5. It still fits your body, and nobody else’s
This one matters a lot to me. Group coaching does not mean the same plan for everybody. We’re all made differently, and what makes your neighbour feel wonderful might not suit you at all. Your age, your history, your digestion, your sleep and the life you lead all play a part. This is called bio-individuality, and I wrote about it in Bio-individuality in Practice: Why Your Friend’s Diet Might Not Work for You.
That’s why, in my groups, each person fills in a detailed questionnaire before we start. Your answers stay strictly between you and me. You learn together, and you leave with a personalised plan that is truly yours.
6. It’s a gentler step for your budget
In a group, you get the same knowledge, the same care and the same guidance for a fraction of the price of individual coaching. For many people it’s the perfect way to begin. And if you later want to go deeper one to one, you’ll already have solid foundations.
7. It’s simply more fun
We laugh a lot in my groups. We taste things, we compare notes, we celebrate small victories. I’ll bring some healthy snacks along, so you can try new ideas before making them at home. And here’s a little secret about habits: we keep doing what we enjoy. If changing how you eat feels like punishment, it won’t last. If it feels like a good moment in your week, it will.
Is group coaching right for you?
If you’d like to understand your body better, if you enjoy learning with others, and if you want support that lasts longer than a good intention, then yes, I think you’ll love it.
If your health situation is more complex, or if you’d simply rather talk in private, individual coaching may suit you better. Not sure which one is for you? Book a free 20-minute video call with me and we’ll look at it together, with no obligation at all.
