It’s not about New Year's resolutions, it’s about taking the decision and start

It's been a few years now that I've been dropping my New Year's resolutions because I haven't always been able to follow them. Yes, I am guilty of that too! And you probably are as well.

Whether you want to get better and healthier or you want to start your side gig, for one reason or another, you've had a hard time sticking to them, or even starting. Maybe it's because you expected it to happen on its own, without putting any effort into it or planning what is required. And because it didn't happen the way you wanted it to, you just gave up. It's quite usual.

Why does it happen? Because you didn't have the right approach.

What we forget or what we don't usually think about is the process. We imagine the outcome we want for next year, but we don't think about planning the process. We forget the steps we need to take or the effort we need to put into it.

That's why we need to set a real goal, not a resolution or a once a year thing, but choose a real life change.

Here are some tips that helped me achieve my goals:

First of all, ask yourself why you want to reach this goal. Is it something really meaningful to you or is it just the typical New Year's resolution that everyone has? Are you ready to commit and change your life?

Once you're ready to commit, write down your goal and make it official. That way, it won't just be an idea and you'll begin to take it seriously.

Then think about your why. What makes you want these changes? Why do you want to achieve this specific goal? Once you know what motivates you to change, the steps to follow will become crystal clear to you.

One of the most important things is your ambition. You can't achieve anything if you don't dedicate yourself to it. You must believe in your goal and have confidence in yourself because you are capable of achieving it. If you have faith in your goal and take it seriously, you have no reason to give up.

There are times, however, when frustration may arise because you feel you are just stagnating. Of course, this will happen if you don't keep track of your progress.  So write it down too, because it will keep you motivated. And even if it's just a little bit, you'll feel closer to your goal. But remember that progress doesn't happen overnight, it takes time, so be realistic.

Be confident that with a little effort and time, everything can be achieved. All you have to do is stick to your plan. Think about how you will feel and the short and long-term consequences if you give up. Will you feel proud, or will it be bad for those around you or your career if you don't make these changes?

Now will you keep setting unachievable resolutions or will you start to take action and realize lifestyle changes?

Never forget, it's about progress, not perfection!
