Here are 6 unique concepts that form the basis of my coaching in nutrition and health:
I recognize that everyone is different. There is no single approach to diet or well-being that works for everyone, and that's good. In fact, a growing number of research supports this approach.
I accept your unique nutritional or lifestyle needs without comparison or judgment. While eating mostly whole foods, feel good, are healthy and happy, the possibilities of what you should eat and do every day are endless.
As mentioned earlier, true health is much more than food. You can eat all the vegetables you want, but if you do not like your job, if you are not satisfied with your relationships or if you do not do daily exercises or other forms of personal care, then you will be undernourished in life. Primary food is the concept that nutrition, career, relationships, spirituality, fitness and the pursuit of your passions play an equal role in the creation of well-being and should be considered for health exploration.
Most diets focus on the things you should avoid, creating a cycle of deprivation, pressure, embarrassment and failure. I focus on change by adding more good things to your diet instead of reducing bad ones. By adding more good things without really trying to change everything at the same time, you create a natural cycle of abundance and curiosity that "expels" things that are not so good. In this way, you will find that your preferences change over time, that your cravings are redirected and that you no longer want what you had before, or at least you will find it much easier to have a balance.
Have you ever disagreed with the way others approach wellness, or lack thereof, but you feel uncomfortable talking and do not want to attract attention? We all tended to "fit in" with the crowd to avoid inconveniences or be labelled as different. Does it really help someone? I encourage you to "make your way" being your incredible and magnificent self. Stop playing with caution and let your true self shine, be different, challenge the conventional wisdom of wellness in your community and do the things that make your heart sing. Not only will it feel more authentic, but it can also inspire those around you. I'm here to support you.
Do you know what else is good for you from time to time? Indulgence, fun and pleasure! Sometimes being a little "bad" is so good, doesn’t it? I believe in balance and that means we have to let go from time to time so we can have fun and feed our soul. 90/10 is a useful reminder that if you eat healthy foods and take good care 90% of the time, your body can support a cookie or a glass of wine occasionally. The goal of well-being is not to adhere to anything so strictly as to deprive oneself of all the joy of living. While you focus on wellness most of the time, you deserve to relax and enjoy the occasion.
Eat real food
Finally yet importantly, my basic diet philosophy is to eat whole foods that are not processed. Eat seasonally; explore a varied diet of different colours and textures, which include vegetables and fruits, cereals, different sources of proteins, legumes, nuts and seeds. It does not matter if you are omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, if you are following a paleo, macrobiotic, Mediterranean, gluten-free, dairy-free diet or any combination of the above. During my coaching sessions, I respect the individual preferences of each one. The most important thing you will learn here is to really know how to listen to your body and give or reduce, depending on what makes you feel the best of yourself. With this experience, you will understand much better the preferences of others and can share the valuable process of well-being with a deeper understanding, patience and acceptance.
